Northern Archaeological Treasures

Discover Trujillo and Chiclayo on the north coast of Peru, for four days full of sun and culture. Visit beautiful churches and mansions from the colonial era, as well as impressive huacas, temples and archaeological complexes that belonged to ancient civilizations. Tour museums, the Chicama Valley and enjoy the marine flavors offered by the Peruvian sea.

📍 Points Highlights

Trujillo:  Capital of the eternal spring, it hosts Chan Chan, adobe city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

 

Huanchaco:  In this spa the ‘totora caballitos’ are still used, boats built from 1,000 to 3,000 years BC with stalks and cattail leaves, for artisanal navigation and fishing.

 

Chiclayo:  The northern city is home to the Lord of Sipán and Mochica culture.

Itinerary

DÍA 1

Day 1 | Arrival Trujillo (1 hr flight from Lima)

After arriving in the city, you will start a brief  tour of the attractions of Trujillo . As an important city during the colony, Trujillo keeps beautiful buildings and mansions of the time:  Santa Clara and El Carmen churches  and their  Conventos de Clausura , the  Church of San Francisco . Continue to the  Plaza de Armas  and the  Cathedral  and more historical buildings.  At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

DÍA 2

Day 2 | Trujillo – Huacas del Sol & la Luna – Chan Chan – Huanchaco

Transfer to  the Huacas del Sol and the Moon , where you will visit  the archaeological complex of the Huacas , which includes two large truncated pyramids, the Huaca Las Estrellas, Huaca del Cerro Blanco and other buildings. Next, you will visit the Huaca del Dragon or the Rainbow, a pyramid of presumed religious use. He will then have lunch at a local restaurant and be transferred to  Chan Chan, the largest mud city in the world.  Later you will be transferred to  Huanchaco , a traditional spa in the city of Trujillo and finally you will return to your hotel. 

DÍA 3

Day 3 | Trujillo – Complex (Cao) – Chiclayo

You will visit the El Brujo Archaeological complex, which belongs to the Mochica culture. There is the Huaca Cao Viejo, a pyramid that has walls decorated with colored reliefs that portray complex scenes and geometric figures. It is there that the Lady of Cao, former Mochica ruler, was discovered. After the visit, you will continue to the city of Chiclayo, where you will be transferred to your hotel.

DÍA 4

Day 4 | Arequipa – Colca Valley and Canyon

Departure from Arequipa, passing through the district of Yura en route to the Colca Valley. Lunch will be served in the picturesque town of Chivay with afternoon transfer to your selected hotel in the Colca Valley. Rest of the day off or you can visit the local hot springs.
